I remember when i was in year 6 i wanted to be the greatest musician to ever walk this earth..the only problem was that i didn't know what i wanted to play! I was in a music workshop and i saw it! The most beautiful thing you could ever imagine...when i saw it i just knew i had to have it..the Saxophone!! Maybe i liked it because it was gold but i thought it made me look manly and cool. I went home from school buzzing that day and told mum......we couldn't afford a saxophone..My mum is beautiful so she told me she would get me something even better...I couldn't wait to see what it was going to be...a drumkit....maybe a guitar......no......a FLUTE!!!!!!..This devistated me...picture a small kid 4ft tall and 5ft wide with a FLUTE!!! The counselling is helping a lot today..
I remember this story and it gets me thinking about the choices we have in life..Unlike me in that story, we in our lives have choices..J.Martin Johe once said "The greatest power that a person possesses is the power to choose". When God created Adam and Eve did he know that they would sin? Of course...then why create us? It's because the God we serve seeks relationship not robots..We were created with the power to choose.
"What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new, right now".
The decisions in our life have brought us to where we are today, but the choices we make from here on determine where our future lies.
Every second that goes by 1.78 people in the world's population die..Almost 2 people every second have to face the consequences of their choices. Every choice moves us closer to or away from something. Where are your choices taking your life? What do your behaviours demonstrate that you are saying yes or no to in life. "Nobody did or ever will escape the consequences of their choices" Alfred A Montapert.
Just a minute ago i received an e-mail from a girl who told me a guy i knew was killed in a car crash on the weekend. Some decisions we make in our lives often have tragic results. But there is awesome news.
There is this story of a guy who took his inheritance from his father early. He decided to do his own thing and spent it on all sorts of useless things. It wasn't long before he found himself in the field eating with the pigs.He thought that if he returned home he would be rejected..but when he did his father saw him in the field and ran to him with his arms open and the son was welcomed home with a feast.
What we don't realise is that about 2000 years ago a man held his arms open to us open palms to show his infinate love and they nailed them to the cross. Jesus Christ died on a cross with his arms open to show us that no matter how far we go..no matter what decisions and choices we make...no matter how guilty or dirty we feel..we can always come home to our father.... and you know what? His arms are always open wide.
"There is no perfect Church! if there is such a thing it stopped being perfect the moment you and i walked in, but there is a perfect God"
If you can take one thing away its this.."He died for us so we can live for him" Never be afraid to run into his arms.
God Bless!!
